After Years of Putting Others First

You may feel stressed, frustrated, and unsure what to do next. Although you were able to push through before, everything feels heavier and harder to handle now. Since you learned early to put yourself on the back burner, practicing self care feels selfish and unproductive.

Instead, you suffer in silence and use unhealthy habits as false escapes to temporarily numb the pain. You may find yourself stuck in a cycle of doom scrolling on your cell phone, avoiding others like the plague, neglecting daily responsibilities and feeling worse as the days go by.

Over time, this can affect your ability to focus, connect with others and complete tasks without feeling overwhelmed.

The Pain You Hide

✔ So sad and tired that getting out of bed is exhausting

✔ Perfectionist paralyzed in planning but cannot execute

✔ Intense emotions that take you from 0 to 100 real quick

✔ Constant fear that causes avoidance, anger and irritation

The Pain You Hide

✔ Feels like you’re drowning in tasks with no support

✔ Worry too much about what will happen in the future

✔ Going through the motions with little interest or effort

✔ Replay conversations in your head leading to self doubt

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

You have done the heavy lifting,

often without a break to lighten the load.

Common Reasons Adults Reach Out

Many adults were raised in an emotionally immature family because past generations lacked mental health awareness and healthy coping skills. In these environments, children received the backlash from highly critical caregivers who controlled everything but their own emotions.

As a result, they learned to maneuver in unpredictable environments and confused survival for safety. Those survival skills that once protected them are vicious cycles that affect daily life.

You May Notice:

  • ADHD and executive dysfunction

  • Difficulty setting boundaries

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Depression and low motivation

  • Self doubt

  • Perfectionism and self criticism

  • Anxiety and over thinking

  • Burnout

What Change Can Look Like

01. Starting

When people start therapy, they may feel nervous with an unfamiliar person and hesitant about change.

02. Building

As the therapeutic rapport is built, people feel relieved by naming their stressors and setting goals for their true desires.

03. Thriving

After some lifestyle adjustments, people become more confident and empowered to thrive on their mental health journey.

Progress in therapy is a cycle of growth and setbacks, not a straight path.
However, the goal is progress not perfection and your participation determines your success.
