When You've Spent Years Performing, Perfecting, and Putting Everyone Else First

You may feel stressed, frustrated, and unsure what to do next. Although you were able to push through before, everything feels heavier and harder to handle now. Since you were taught early to put yourself on the back burner, practicing self care feels selfish and unproductive.

Instead, you suffer in silence and use unhealthy habits as false escapes to temporarily numb the pain. You may find yourself stuck in a cycle of doom scrolling on your cell phone, avoiding others like the plague, neglecting daily responsibilities, and feeling worse as the days go by.

Over time, the perfectionism and emotional overwhelm can show up as anxiety, depression, and ADHD that can affect your ability to focus, connect with others, and complete tasks.

The Pain You Hide Can Show Up As:

✔ Intense emotions that take you from 0 to 100 real quick.

✔ Perfectionist who gets paralyzed in planning but can’t execute.

✔ So sad and tired that getting out of bed is exhausting.

✔ Constant fear that leads to avoidance, anger and irritation.

✔ Worry too much about what will happen in the future.

✔ Feels like you’re drowning in tasks with no help to stay afloat.

✔ Going through the motions with little interest or effort.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. You are juggling a lot, often without a break to stop and lighten the load.

At Authentic Living Therapeutic Solutions, we can help you unpack overwhelming thoughts, sort out your needs, and build healthy habits. We understand that life is hard and we’re here to make it easier.

Common Reasons Adults Reach Out

A lot of adults were raised in an emotionally immature family because past generations lacked mental health awareness and healthy coping skills. In these environments, children often experienced the backlash from highly critical and abusive caregivers that controlled everything but their own emotions. They were dismissed, called too sensitive and treated like they were the problem. They learned to maneuver in unpredictable environments and confused survival for safety. Those survival skills that once protected them are now destructive patterns that make life hard to manage.

What Change Can Look Like

01 : Beginning

When people begin therapy, they may feel nervous about sharing personal things with an unfamiliar person. Although exhausted from life circumstances, people may also be a little hesitant about doing something different.

02 : Building rapport

As the therapeutic rapport is built, people feel relieved by naming their stressors and having someone to truly listen. People begin to engage in collaborative efforts with the therapist to set goals that represent their true desires.

03 : Thriving

After making some healthy lifestyle changes, people begin to feel more confident and empowered on their mental healthcare journey. They experience more moments of calm and clarity instead of the opposite extreme. They learn effective communication in relationships. They practice self compassion like a best friend instead of worst critic. They also display a sense of pride in their ability to thrive in life.

Progress in therapy is not linear and includes growth and setbacks similar to real life. However, the goal is progress not perfection and your participation is the most important motivator of success.
